motorcycletoursunlimited takes you on a tour of a lifetime!
Alaska, feel your wild instincts come out!
Imagine your first glimpse of the highest peak in North America, Mt. McKinley.
The Alaska Natives still call it Denali, which means The Great One. At 20,320 feet, it is an awe-inspiring view.
We will find excellent picture-taking opportunities at the Veteran's Memorial, where we will also find clean
bathroom stops and open fields for stretching our legs. The scenery is wilderness Alaska; rainy or sunny, it is perfect.
We'll enjoy Rose's Cafe, with its friendly atmosphere and inviting menu.
The trip onward to Fairbanks is a never-to-be-forgotten adventure. Expect to see caribou, moose,
possibly wolves, bears, and smaller wildlife. Keep your cameras and camcorders handy!
Fairbanks to Valdez is an ecologically-sound accomplishment which will take us along part of the famed Alaska Pipeline.
We'll want to stop and briefly explore Worthington Glacier with its interpretive center and accessible walkways.
Worthington is just one of 100,000 glaciers in Alaska! The blue ice of monumental glaciers is a color you cannot
believe without seeing it.
Valdez is a small, friendly port city, quaint with history that predates and includes the Great Alaska Earthquake of 1964.
The trek back from Valdez to Anchorage, traveling north on the Richardson Highway, around Glennallen, and
then south on the New Glenn Highway, will take us through winding canyons, over mountains, through "The
Drunken Forest," and past the mighty Matanuska Glacier, which is 27 miles long. It is not unusual to have
wolves approach you within a hundred yards or so. Their chilling howl is a sound to capture your immediate
attention and a sound you will never forget! This is wildlife at its best!
The exhilarating, victorious return to Anchorage on Sunday will culminate this trip-of-a-lifetime! You will
leave knowing that you have completed a journey of which most people can only dream! |
